| The children of Mrs. Donna Reiman's fifth grade class at North Collins Elementary School pose for a photograph in recognition of their inspiring contribution to the Schoolhouse #8 Endowment Fund.
After taking a field trip to the Schoolhouse #8 History Center, Chelsea Renaldo (holding can) and Nichole Ulrich (seated next to Chelsea) took it upon themselves to approach Principal John Cataldo and Teacher Donna Reiman about placing a can for donations in their class room. Together, the students raised about $60 for the schoolhouse. The whole community can be very proud of these kids. Their encouragement, and sense of pride in our community is an inspiration to all of us involved in the restoration project. From the entire Schoolhouse #8 team, you kids are great! |

| Did you ever have the feeling that something was missing? The people working to restore the schoolhouse thought so. The site just wouldn't be historically accurate without an outhouse. Through some careful negotiations, we are very proud to announce that this authentic, 19th century, "3-holer" was carefully restored to it original condition using timbers salvaged by Norm Andolina from an old structure of the same time period.
It now rests proudly, for display purposes only, on the Schoolhouse and Library campus, just as it would have 150 years ago. It's a poignant example for visitors of some of the hardships our ancestors had to endure, all in the name of education. Many thanks to Jim & Joan Renaldo for allowing the use of their shop to facilitate the restoration. Thanks also to our master carpenter John Keough for his careful attention to detail. Special thanks to Andy Wingeier for the donation of this structure, and to all the other volunteers responsible for laying the concrete pad and walkway. |
